There is more than a fad to matcha as it is your daily dose of nutrition and good health. Matcha tea has been a part of the Zen culture of wellness practiced in China for many centuries. This is one of the healthiest teas you can consume and get good health benefits.

What is Matcha: "Matcha translated means powdered tea, with Ma meaning powder and Cha means tea in English. Both Matcha tea and also black tea comes from the same plant, the Camelia Sinensis. The difference between the two comes down to the farming process. Green tea plants grow in the shade for 3 to 4 weeks before harvest. Shade growing is a labour intensive process which elicits an increase to the amino acid L-theanine production. This process also decreases the bitter flavour, bringing out the natural sweetness in the leaves. The contrasts in farming techniques give Japanese Matcha a nutritional advantage. The shading process ensures chlorophyll and other nutrients are concentrated in the leaves. This includes an abundance of the natural antioxidant polyphenols." Matcha is rich in catechins, which have been shown to positively affect a person's body weight and body fat mass. Matcha green tea can naturally help your body speed up your metabolism, allowing you to burn more calories and reduce the excess fat storage in a process known as "thermogenesis."

How can you tell real Matcha? When rubbed between your fingers, a good quality Matcha green tea has a fine and smooth feel to it. Its consistency should be similar to that of a baby powder or an eyeshadow. A sure way to test if your Matcha is of high standards is to put a little bit of it onto a piece of white paper, then smear it. There are 3 Matcha Grades: Ceremonial grade, Premium grade and Cooking/culinary grade. Our Matcha tea is Premium grade which is high-quality matcha green tea that contains young tea leaves from the top of the tea plant. Best for daily consumption, it is characterized by a fresh, subtle flavor, usually perfect for both new and everyday matcha drinkers alike.
